Kick-start the day
My favorite way to start every wedding day is by photographing all of the beautiful little details that you have so meticulously put together. This usually comes in the form of what is called a "flat lay", where I style things like your invitation suite, rings, and sentimental details on a flat surface. What gets included in your flat lays is up to you! These photos are often the first ones in your gallery, and they reflect the mood, colors, and vibes of your wedding day.
how should you prepare?
I like to ask my brides to keep their important details in a shoebox or small bag waiting for me when I arrive. That way, I can just grab it and get started, and you don't have to interrupt your morning running around looking for everything! Below is a list of what many people include in their details box, but this list should be unique to you!
- Your engagement ring, your wedding ring, and your partner's ring(s). Make sure you keep all of these together!
- Wedding shoes
- Wedding jewelry (necklace, earrings, bracelet, and anything else you're wearing)
- Garter
- Invitation suite (all the paper you've sent out to people! Two copies of everything is especially helpful)
- Any other paper goods (think wedding program, dinner menu, etc)
- Perfume
- Vow books
- Sentimental details (do you have a bouquet pin honoring a lost loved one? A hairpiece that belonged to grandma? Things of that nature!)
- Wedding favor, if you're doing them
- Your bouquet (pro tip - ask your florist for a few loose blooms that I can add to your display. Most will do this at no additional cost!)
My second shooter will be with your partner during this time. Usually, grooms have a lot less "stuff" to capture, but here's a list for them too!
- Shoes/socks
- Tie
- Boutonniere
- Cufflinks
- Pocket square
- Watch
- Mini bottle of whatever their drink of choice is - this can add a little bit of fun and personality!
If you and your fiancé are getting ready close to each other, I can also get a few photos of some of these things together!
Leave it to the pros
When you book your wedding with me, one of the things I do is make sure to get the details styled perfectly. I'll get to know your wedding colors and vibe a little bit ahead of time, and I will bring along a selection of items that I know will complement your wedding details. I have lots of fun trinkets, trays, ring boxes, ribbons, and more that will help bring your personality to life in your detail photos. I'll arrange them in multiple different ways to get a variety of looks. Once I'm done with flat lays, I'll move on to your other details like your dress, and then we can get the party started with the photos of you and the people you love! With these photos, you'll be able to look back on them and be reminded of all of the work, love, and dedication you put into making your wedding exactly what you want it to be.
